The Goals of the Solution
-
The Goals of the Solution:
The goal of the project is to increase climate resilience across the entire value chain of soy and potatoes in the border region between Upper Austria, South Bohemia, and the Vysočina Region. This will be achieved by optimizing irrigation and minimizing water consumption through the use of innovative technologies such as agri-PV systems and water footprint assessment. The project focuses on sustainable water management and supports cross-border cooperation strategies in the field of climate adaptation.

More About the Project
The TASTE project aims to support the technological transformation and sustainable development of the agri-food ecosystem in the border region Upper Austria - South Bohemia - Vysočina Region.
The main objective is to increase the competitiveness of regional actors (especially SMEs) through applied research, innovation, and knowledge transfer. The project brings together experts from universities, research organisations, the public and private sectors to develop pilot solutions to challenges such as digitalisation, environmental sustainability, food security, and climate change.
The TASTE project is implementing two key pilot activities: growing soybean as a model crop and testing agrovoltaics. For soybeans, precision farming technologies - in particular, sensory tools to monitor soil and crop parameters - are being tested to reduce the need for fertilisers and promote local processing of this strategic crop. Agrovoltaics is an innovative combination of agricultural production and solar energy generation, where the project is investigating its technical feasibility, economic efficiency, and impact on yield and microclimate. An emphasis on efficient water management links the two activities - whether in the form of increased soil retention, optimised irrigation, or screening to reduce evaporation - whereby the project responds to climate challenges and contributes to the sustainability of agriculture in the region.
