About

The university microbrewery of the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology was founded in May 2016. Its objective is not only to supply the surrounding area with “academic” beer, but, in particular, to work in the field of research and education in beer industry. This is quite a challenge, combined with a great courage in a town that boasts two large breweries with centuries of history and experience in beer production. However, challenges are meant to be challenged.

The first big step was to fill the brewmaster’s position. The helmsman and captain in one person, a brewmaster holds the most important job in every brewery. Our microbrewery was immensely lucky to have as our brewmaster Libor Smutek, who has many years of experience in brewing beer in the Gambrinus and Pilsner Breweries. His (and now also our) assets are the fact that he has also been active in the field of building technology in brewing, which means that he will be not taken unawares by any technical failures or defects in technology caused by design errors. During his tenure (from 1/5/206 to 30/4/2023, when he took his "second" pension), he trained a capable successor, Ing. Vlastimil Nohejl, who is our new brewermaster from 1st of May 2023.
