Organisation of Studies
Administration of Studies

Interruption of Studies

  • The interruption of studies is governed by Article 26 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia.
  • The student submits the request electronically via the STAG portal (after logging into STAG – section My studyStudent application forms). In the request for an interruption of studies, the student must specify the period for which the interruption is being requested.
  • The maximum total duration of the interruption is 2 years.

There are two types of interruptions:

  • Standard Interruption of Studies: interruption of studies in the second or higher year of study for one or more semesters (typically the period from September 1 to January 31 of the following year, or from February 1 to August 31).

The dean will approve the application if the student has met the requirements for progression to the next semester or year and has successfully completed at least one semester of study.

  • Non-standard Interruption of Studies: Interruption during the first semester or interruption of studies that began after the start of the teaching period.

The dean will approve the application only for serious reasons that have been duly documented by the student, particularly for health reasons or due to exercising the right to interrupt studies during a recognized period of parental leave.

  • The period of interruption is not counted towards the standard duration of study – e.g., for the purpose of determining fees or when assessing the total duration of studies.
  • During the period of interruption, the person is not considered a student.

Withdrawal from Studies

  • Withdrawal from studies is governed by Article 30 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia.
  • A student who wishes to withdraw from their studies must notify the Study Department of the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology by submitting a written statement, or by submitting the notification electronically via the STAG portal (after logging into STAG – section My study – Student application forms).
  • The date of withdrawal from studies is considered to be the day on which the written statement (application) for withdrawal was delivered to the faculty.

Successful Completion of Studies

  • Studies are properly concluded by completing the relevant study program. The date of completion is the day on which the state exam prescribed at the end of the program, or its last part, is taken (§ 55 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions).
  • A graduate of the FAT USB shall pay a fee for services related to the academic ceremony of the GRADUATION CEREMONY (if the graduate does not attend the ceremony, this fee is not required).
  • The university diploma will be awarded to the graduate at the formal graduation ceremony. If the graduate does not attend the ceremony, he/she will receive the diploma in an alternative manner — either through personal collection at the study department or by registered mail via Czech Post.

Extension of Studies

  • Students in the 3rd year of the Bachelor's program or the 2nd year of the follow-up Master's program often ask about the possibility of extending their studies – this option is automatically granted based on the Higher Education Act and the Study and Examination Regulations of USB.
  • A student does not apply for or announce an extension; he/she automatically becomes a so-called "waiting student" (a student who studies longer than the standard duration of studies).
  • The total maximum duration of studies in a bachelor's or master's program that follows a bachelor's program (hereinafter referred to as a follow-up master's program) is 2 years longer than the standard duration.
    • Standard duration for a bachelor's program = 3 years
    • Standard duration for a follow-up master's program = 2 years
  • A student who has met all the requirements to take the last part of the state final exam in a given academic year must pass this exam no later than in the following academic year.

Recognition of Subjects

  • To apply for recognition of subjects, the student must submit an electronic application for recognition of subjects by October 31, 2025.
  • The student submits the application electronically via the STAG portal (after logging into STAG – section My study – Student application forms – Request for subject recognition).
  • Subjects cannot be recognized if they are:
    • A university qualification thesis or any part of the state final exam,
    • A subject that has already been recognized,
    • A subject completed more than five years ago, or an exam graded lower than "very good" (2),
    • A complete part of the studies that was completed more than two years ago.

Change of Study Form, Study programme, or Specialization

  • Transfers of students from other universities, other faculties of USB, or higher vocational schools into studies at the FAT USB are not permitted in accordance with Article 29 of the Study and Examination Regulations of USB.
  • According to Article 29, paragraph 4 of the Study and Examination Regulations, a student may apply for a change of study program, model study plan, or form of study only after successfully completing the first year of study. In exceptional, properly justified and documented cases, the Dean may allow such a change earlier.

Recognized Period of Parental Leave

  • This is governed by Article 11 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia. Detailed information is provided in Rector's Ordinance R246.
  • A student has the right to an extension of deadlines for fulfilling study obligations, as well as conditions for progressing to the next semester, year, or block of study for the period corresponding to what would otherwise be the duration of their maternity leave.
  • A student has the right to apply a deduction of the recognized period of parental leave from the total duration of studies regarding tuition fee obligations; this must be reported in a written notification.
  • During the recognized period of parental leave, a student has the right to study according to an individual study plan.
