Administration of Studies

Interruption of Studies

  • The interruption of studies is governed by Article 26 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia.
  • A student requests an interruption of studies through a written application submitted to the faculty’s study department.
  • The maximum total duration of the interruption is 2 years.

There are two types of interruptions:

  • Standard Interruption of Studies: This applies to interruptions during the second or higher year of study.
    • The dean will approve the application if the student has met the requirements for progression to the next semester or year and has successfully completed at least one semester of study.
  • Non-standard Interruption of Studies: This applies to interruptions during the first semester.
    • The dean will approve the application only for serious reasons that have been duly documented by the student, particularly for health reasons or due to exercising the right to interrupt studies during a recognized period of parental leave.

  • The period of interruption is not counted towards the standard duration of studies.
  • During the period of interruption, the person is not considered a student.

Withdrawal from Studies

  • Withdrawal from studies is governed by Article 30 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia.
  • A student may withdraw from their studies at any time, including during a period of interruption according to Article 26, or after the initiation of proceedings for termination of studies according to § 56 paragraph 1 letter b) of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., by submitting a written declaration of withdrawal to the relevant faculty.
  • The date of termination of studies is considered to be the day on which the written declaration for withdrawal is submitted to the faculty.

Successful Completion of Studies

  • Studies are properly concluded by completing the relevant study program. The date of completion is the day on which the state exam prescribed at the end of the program, or its last part, is taken (§ 55 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions).
  • Graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology, will pay an administrative fee for services related to the academic ceremony (graduation).
  • The university diploma will be awarded to the graduate at the formal graduation ceremony. If the graduate does not attend the ceremony, he/she will receive the diploma in an alternative manner—either through personal collection at the study department or by mail via Czech Post.

Extension of Studies

  • The extension of studies is governed by Article 7 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia.
  • A student does not apply for or announce an extension; he/she automatically becomes a so-called "waiting student" (a student who studies longer than the standard duration of studies).
  • The total maximum duration of studies in a bachelor's or master's program that follows a bachelor's program (hereinafter referred to as a follow-up master's program) is 2 years longer than the standard duration.
    • Standard duration for a bachelor's program = 3 years
    • Standard duration for a follow-up master's program = 2 years
  • A student who has met all the requirements to take the last part of the state final exam in a given academic year must pass this exam no later than in the following academic year.
  • An extension of the study period may be subject to a fee. For further information, please refer to the section „Fees“.

Recognition of Subjects

  • Recognition of subjects is governed by Article 25 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia and the Dean's Ordinance No. 10/2019.
  • To apply for recognition of subjects, a written request must be submitted along with the payment of an administrative fee.
  • If a student is requesting recognition of subjects from previous studies (outside the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology, University of South Bohemia), they must do so no later than October 31st of the academic year in which they are in their first year.
  • In other cases, the student must submit their request by the end of the semester in which they enrolled in the subject for which recognition is being sought.
  • Subjects cannot be recognized if they are:
    • A university qualification thesis or any part of the state final exam,
    • A subject that has already been recognized,
    • A subject completed more than five years ago,
    • An exam graded lower than "very good" (2),
    • A complete part of the studies that was completed more than two years ago.

  • This is governed by Article 29 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia.

Recognized Period of Parental Leave

  • This is governed by Article 11 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of South Bohemia.
  • Detailed information is provided in Rector's Ordinance R246.
  • A student has the right to an extension of deadlines for fulfilling study obligations, conditions for progressing to the next semester, year, or block of study by the duration of their maternity leave.
  • A student has the right to apply a deduction of the recognized period of parental leave from the total duration of studies regarding tuition fee obligations; this must be reported in a written notification.
  • During the recognized period of parental leave, a student has the right to study according to an individual study plan.
