The Goals of the Solution

  • The Goals of the Solution:

Social farming, in short, connects the agricultural sector – primary production and processing – on farms, with social work in general. The aim of social farming is to use the benefits of the production and non-production functions of agriculture to support the quality of life of people with social disadvantages or disabilities. Emphasis is placed primarily on work integration, social services, rehabilitation, therapy and education that take place on the farm. Agriculture offers many advantages that are associated with this environment – whether it is practical work, contact with animals, work in the fresh air, personnel outside the social services or healthcare system, etc. Social farming thus represents an innovative approach to the care and support of people who remain on the margins of society.

The SoFarTEAM – Social Work in Farming – Teaching material about client groups and their involvement in social farming project focuses on people with health and social disadvantages and their involvement in social farming. The resulting documents are being developed over three years (2020-2023) by a group of 6 partners from 4 European countries to illustrate what people with health and social disadvantages can benefit from the farm environment, how to make the most of farms, and how social work is reflected in social agriculture. The materials will be available to social work educators, social farmers, as well as the general public and anyone interested in this dynamic area.
