FAT and University Day at the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship

From April 14 to 16, 2025, we took part in the accompanying program of the IIHF Women’s World Championship in České Budějovice. As part of the “University Day” event, we had a unique opportunity to present our faculty through an interactive and entertaining program for visitors of all ages.

Monday: Artificial Intelligence and the AI Avatar

The first day featured the Department of Data Sciences and Computing Systems. Visitors could chat with an AI Avatar—a digital figure powered by artificial intelligence—and have it generate a unique image based on their own imagination. The finished artwork could be printed and taken home as a souvenir. The activity attracted strong interest, especially from children and families, while also engaging adults in discussions about the practical uses of AI.

Tuesday: České Budějovice Under the Microscope

On Tuesday, the Department of Landscape Management joined the program with activities focused on exploring the city's history and urban development. Visitors tested their knowledge of local landmarks, identified architectural styles, and learned where the original city fortifications once stood. Through interactive panels, they explored how the urban landscape has transformed over time—from historical buildings to the current appearance of familiar locations.

Wednesday: Robotics, Neural Networks, and the Magic of Chemistry

Wednesday marked the official “University Day” and was dedicated to technology, science, and modern innovations.

The Department of Technology and Cybernetics showcased educational robotic arms, unmanned systems, and machine vision capabilities. Visitors could try controlling robots or have themselves analyzed by a neural network that estimated the percentage to which it recognized a person—or a phone or bag—in them.

A major highlight was the Science Show by Dr. Šeda from the Department of Applied Chemistry. In two engaging sessions, he presented a series of fun and visually striking chemistry experiments that captivated both children and adults.

Throughout all three days, we enjoyed beautiful weather, a great atmosphere, and a high turnout. We thank everyone who stopped by our booth, took part in the activities, and showed interest in what we do. We’re proud to have been part of this exciting sports event!

Special thanks go to all the participating departments and colleagues who helped organize and deliver the program. A big thank-you to Dr. Šeda from the Department of Applied Chemistry for his captivating Science Show, which enriched the World Championship’s accompanying events.
