Faculty Representatives Presented at the Agroecology Forum 2025 in Sweden

At the beginning of October, the Swedish city of Malmö hosted the international Agroecology Forum 2025, a conference accompanied by a series of supporting workshops, excursions, and other activities. The three-day event, subtitled Transformation in Action, attracted experts from across Europe who are seeking pathways toward a more sustainable future for agriculture and food systems. The Faculty of Agriculture and Technology of the University of South Bohemia was represented at the forum by two of its experts.

The conference, organized by the Agroecology Europe network with the support of the City of Malmö and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, was opened by Professor Miguel Altieri from the University of California, one of the world’s leading authorities in the field of agroecology.

Assoc. Prof. Jan Moudrý from the Department of Agroecosystems spoke in the section Diverse, Resilient and Multifunctional Food Systems – Agroecology for Healthy Food. His colleague, Dr. Kristýna Perná, presented the topic Electronic Marketplace as a Possibility for Wider Use of Local and Organic Production in School Catering Facilities.

The forum was preceded by important discussions at the European level. As a member of the European Panel for Agroecology Transition (EPAT), Assoc. Prof. Moudrý participated in debates on the future of European agriculture alongside representatives from the European Commission and the Directorates-General for Agriculture (DG AGRI) and the Environment (DG ENVI).

Key topics of these discussions included the forthcoming European Soil Protection Act and the formulation of priorities for the next calls within the Horizon programme. These meetings thus have a direct impact on shaping European agricultural policy and research priorities.
