The Goals of the Solution

  • The Goals of the Solution:

The main objective of the project is to integrate molecular methods into existing breeding programs and to streamline the process of developing new cultivars. The project goals are:

    1. Sequencing of poppy genotypes representing the available range of genetic variability and haplotype calling for GWAS
    2. Precise phenotyping under field and controlled conditions
    3. Association analyses and identification of candidate genes involved in responses to biotic stressors
    4. Differential gene expression analysis and development of molecular markers for effective molecular selection of resistant genotypes
    5. Amplicon sequencing for low-cost variety identification and traceability
    6. Introduction of gene editing in poppy
    7. Implementation of the breeding by design approach into breeding
  • Keywords:

poppy breeding; marker-assisted selection; GWAS; biotic stress; resistance breeding; molecular markers; laboratory pathosystems; genome editing; new genomic techniques; amplicon sequencing
