The Goals of the Solution
-
The Goals of the Solution:
The main goal of the project is to transfer biotechnological and molecular methods from the laboratory into practical breeding, to modify current breeding programs, and to improve the efficiency of new breeding processes. The aims are:
- to develop and apply methods for efficient production of dihaploid lines in onion;
- molecular characterization, evaluation of genetic diversity of genetic resources and molecular barcoding;
- identification of carriers of N, T, S, and possibly R cytoplasms and sterility maintainers using whole-genome analysis, followed by development of PCR markers for molecular selection;
- precise phenotyping, transcriptome analysis, identification of genes or regions involved in response to key pathogens, development selection strategies for resistance breeding.
