Explore how horses have shaped culture, hisotry, and human stories – a symbol of freedom, loyalty, and heritage.
This summer school focuses on the historical and contemporary role of horse breeding in the Czech Republic as an integral part of cultural heritage. Participants will explore significant cultural sites connected to horses, including UNESCO heritage locations, historic stud farms, and traditional rural architecture. The activity aims to connect historical knowledge with present-day practices, highlighting horses as symbols of freedom, tradition, and human stories.
Participants will gain knowledge of the historical development of horse breeding in the Czech Republic and its cultural significance. They will become familiar with key heritage sites and traditional practices, understand the link between cultural landscapes and animal breeding, and develop interdisciplinary insights connecting history, culture, and agriculture.

Tuesday (May 26)
- Mažice – a village heritage conservation area known for its uniquely preserved ensemble of traditional rural architecture in the South Bohemian Baroque style, educational trail
- An ecological farm focused on horse breeding, located within the setting of a registered cultural heritage site
Wednesday (May 27)
- State Stud Farm Písek – equestrian activities and stallion breeding in the setting of a registered cultural heritage site
- Český Krumlov (UNESCO) – exhibition of the princely stables, cultural programme
Thursday (May 28)
- State Stud Farm Kladruby nad Labem (UNESCO) – castle and stables exhibition
Friday (May 29)
- Joint closing of the event at the faculty
