Molecular Diagnostics and Forest Pathogens as a Focus of International Cooperation

From 29 June to 3 July 2026, Ing. Dagmar Stehlíková, Ph.D., from the Department of Genetics and Biotechnologies at the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology, University of South Bohemia, completed an Erasmus+ STA teaching mobility at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Kuala Lumpur.
The visit followed up on a previous working trip and represented another step in the developing cooperation between the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology at the University of South Bohemia and the Faculty of Forestry and Environment at UPM. While the first meeting focused primarily on establishing contacts and discussing potential areas of cooperation, the latest mobility already included specific academic and educational activities.
During the week, Dagmar Stehlíková delivered a teaching programme focused on modern molecular diagnostics and forest phytopathology. She gave lectures entitled “Modern Molecular Diagnostics” and “Forest Fungal Pathogens in Europe” for students and academic staff, presenting the latest methods for the detection and identification of plant pathogens used in European research and practice. Participants were introduced in particular to the use of PCR, qPCR, LAMP and other modern molecular approaches for diagnosing important fungal pathogens of forest trees.
The programme also included expert discussions on future research cooperation. The participants explored opportunities for the joint development of new diagnostic systems for the rapid and reliable detection of pathogens that pose a significant risk to forest and agricultural ecosystems. Both institutions identified several thematic areas suitable for the preparation of joint research projects and for involving students in international scientific collaboration.
