The 52nd Země živitelka agricultural fair is now behind us. During six action-packed days, the University of South Bohemia stand in Pavilion R3 was buzzing with activity from morning until evening. Pikador sausages, fish soups and hamburgers disappeared in no time, while the tap serving our university beer, Čtyrák, was kept busy almost non-stop. In discussions and media interviews, our experts presented current research, the development of modern agricultural technologies, and the wide range of study opportunities available at the University of South Bohemia.
Throughout the fair, we welcomed many partners, colleagues and other guests to our stand. It was an honour to welcome and host the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, and his wife, Eva, who also sampled our university beer and fish specialities. They spoke with Pavel Kozák, Rector of the University of South Bohemia, Tomáš Policar, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, and Petr Bartoš, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology, about the current challenges facing Czech agriculture and the landscape, the latest research and development in drone technologies, and aquaponics. While Eva Pavel was given a live crayfish to hold by the Rector, President Pavel was delighted to receive an invitation to visit the University of South Bohemia to discuss with students.
Other guests at the University of South Bohemia stand included Minister of Agriculture of the Czech Republic Martin Šebestián, Minister of the Environment of the Czech Republic Igor Červený, President of the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic Jan Doležal, Mayor of České Budějovice Dagmar Škodová Parmová, and many other representatives of public and professional life. We also welcomed a delegation from the US state of Nebraska, who learned more about the University of South Bohemia's activities during their visit to Země živitelka.

FAT USB as Expert Guarantor of the Smart Farming Programme
This year, the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology of the University of South Bohemia once again took part in the Smart Farming expert programme at Země živitelka, serving as the expert guarantor of the programme section focused on precision agriculture technologies and management.
The programme brought together faculty experts and representatives from agricultural practice, presenting concrete examples of modern technologies and current topics in agricultural development. Discussions covered robotic group milking (batch milking), funding opportunities for farmers in 2026 and 2027, the use of drones for precision applications, smart cow herding, and data management in dairy farming.
Representing FAT USB, Ing. Jakub Polenský, PhD, spoke about drone applications, while Ing. Michal Liška presented the use of drones for precision applications. Further practical experience was shared by Ing. Michal Weber (Milkservis s.r.o.), Ing. Václav Včelák (Agroteam CZ s.r.o.), Ing. Josef Kordík (AGIN s.r.o.) and Ing. Luboš Smutný, Ph.D.

Země živitelka also provided an opportunity to introduce the public to the topics our experts address in their research and professional practice. Representatives of the Department of Technology and Cybernetics at FAT USB appeared on Czech Radio’s Radiožurnál during the fair, while the faculty’s activities were also featured by South Bohemian Television.
