Advanced AI Technologies for Increasing the Profitability of Crop Production in Practice

As part of the Crop Production II course, an expert lecture by Ing. Jan Semrád from Varistar, Ltd. was held on 14 April 2026, focusing on the application of advanced artificial intelligence technologies in crop production. The event provided students with valuable insights into integrating traditional crop cultivation practices with modern precision agriculture principles.

The lecturer introduced various methods for collecting and evaluating data on soil conditions and crop stands of wheat, oilseed rape, maize, and potatoes. Students learned about the use of soil analyses, satellite imagery, and data from agricultural machinery, particularly harvesting equipment. Practical examples demonstrated how to create relative yield potential maps, which underpin variable-rate seeding or planting, as well as the targeted application of organic and mineral fertilisers and crop protection products.

A significant part of the lecture was devoted to the vast amount of data available in modern agriculture and to the possibilities of processing it efficiently using artificial intelligence tools. Students gained an understanding of how advanced analytical methods can contribute to the more efficient use of production inputs and support the long-term economic sustainability of crop production.

The lecture attracted considerable interest among the participants, as evidenced by the lively professional discussion that followed. A total of 25 students attended the event.

  • The lecture was organised in connection with the research project QL24010101.
