The first KreativEU Summer School included a discussion on AI ethics, cultural heritage, and social sustainability

The “Artificial Intelligence” Summer School took place as part of KreativEU activities from 2 to 4 July at the partner university in Trnava, Slovakia. The University of South Bohemia was represented by MSc Jean de Dieu Marcel Ufitikirezi from the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology, Department of Engineering and Cybernetics. It was the first event of this format under the banner of KreativEU.

The aim of the summer schools—and the twelve hackathons to follow—is to create a platform that connects the core missions of higher education (education, research, innovation and service to society) through ethically and sustainably designed AI systems. These approaches take into account European values, identity and diversity. They are based on the premise that European history and tangible and intangible heritage are key components for the future. The resulting systems are intended to have the potential to contribute to addressing global challenges such as climate change, digital transformation, biodiversity loss, inequality and social exclusion.

“The goal of the first summer school was to explore how AI, social sustainability and European cultural heritage can be meaningfully connected, specifically how AI can enhance cultural heritage in an ethical and sustainable way. The discussions emphasized the importance of integrating ethical and sustainable considerations during the AI tool design phase, rather than addressing them only after deployment,” summarized Jean de Dieu Marcel Ufitikirezi on the event’s proceedings.

There will be a total of three KreativEU summer schools—2026 in the Netherlands and 2027 in Turkey.
